About Joy Part 5
Somewhere along the way, as we went from the Sabbath to work to idolatry, God said to me, "This is about joy." I'd never experienced sustained joy so the thought of it was immediately alluring. The hook was set.
In the end, I learned that it was about me and him more than it was about joy. Joy wasn't the end, it was more a part of the means. Not about finding happiness, but finding God.
God doesn't so much give us rights to ... Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He is life, liberty and happiness. The pursuit of him is joy. And it is by my choosing joy that I tell him and tell myself that he is my God. My portion.
Whom have I in heaven but Thee, and besides Thee, I desire nothing on earth...
Nothing new. We are to love God foremost, and worship him only.
What was new or renewed was the reminder of what I have believed. And how I'd devolved to "going through the motions" in my pursuit. With this conversation about joy, God called me anew to press on to take hold of that for which Jesus Christ took hold of me. Him. My portion.
